Take 3 host community clean up to celebrate Earth Day
Every day is Earth Day at Take 3 for the Sea but to celebrate the official annual event our staff joined supporters and volunteers at Wamberal Beach for a clean-up.
Situated in front of the surf club, Take 3 staff arrived bright and early on a beautiful morning on the Central Coast and were overwhelmed by the community support with members of the public, young and old, joining us to remove plastic and waste from the area.
At the conclusion of the morning’s activity a litter audit was completed with those in attendance removing 37.5kgs of litter, including part of a caravan and two discarded fishing cages.

Local resident Miriam Owen, who was joined by her three-year old daughter Mia and four-month-old son Eli said: “We want to take care of our planet and want to help in any way we can.
“These two [Mia and Eli] and all the other children here are the future so teaching them how to do it right and look after our oceans is essential.”
The theme for Earth Day 2021 was Restore Our Earth, with one of the ambitions to inspire a global clean-up, with individuals and organisations invited to take up the challenge and make a difference.
This message is fundamental to the global movement of Take 3 with founder Roberta Dixon-Valk explaining the importance and difference each individual action can make.
She said: “It’s really important to remove rubbish when you see it, as if you don’t who else will! If it stays there it becomes part of the cycle of plastic, breaks up in to smaller and smaller pieces and become part of the problem forever.

“If everyone does their bit, we can make this earth a better and healthier place to be.
“Clean ups like today are all part of our education process. Being out here and talking to the public, not only ensures waste is removed, but it also encourages them to get out there and remove what they see.
“It’s all a journey and being outside you get to know the amount of rubbish that is in your environment, but it is also just great to be outside enjoying the fresh air and making the earth a better place.”
