11 y/o raises over $500 for Take 3

By Allie Shaw

Take 3 believes in simple actions to address complex problems. Mia Cole, an 11 -year-old from Brisbane, Queensland, is capturing this call to action perfectly with her simple ideas which are making a big impact.

Mia decided to save money through a series of fundraising efforts, such as selling rocks and sunflower seeds, collecting and recycling plastic bottles through container recycle points, washing cars, and baking cookies to sell to her neighbours.

After saving up for a year, Mia decided to donate ALL of her savings that she had worked so hard for – a huge $505 – to Take 3.

“I tried to get her to donate the funds when she reached $200 earlier this year, but she had it firmly stuck in her head she wanted to wait until she reached $500,” said Mia’s Mum, Tara.

The generosity is absolutely mind blowing. On behalf of marine life around the world, thank you Mia for supporting Take 3 for the Sea!

All it takes is $3 to educate one person about plastic’s devastating effects on the environment. With Mia’s donation, Take 3 is able to educate over 165 people on the impacts of plastic pollution and waste, inspiring them to take action on sustainability.

“Mia is passionate about the environment and keeping plastics out of our ocean,” said Tara. “She always picks up rubbish from any beach we visit.”

From Mia’s kind-hearted donation, Take 3 will be able to further extend the reach of its education program and vital message. This means the protection of more marine life, cleaner oceans and a healthier environment. The snowball effect of initiatives like Mia’s will be widely felt.
