Tim Silverwood Returns to Lead Take 3

As 2025 draws to a close, I’m thrilled to announce my return to Take 3 for the Sea after a five and a half year break. I am proud to rejoin the organisation as Chair of the Board and “Chief Catalyst”, helping to shape a bright future for the organisation I co-founded with Roberta and Amanda more than 15 years ago. 

I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on the early days of Take 3 recently, when a simple idea, powered by passion and community, grew into a global movement to end plastic pollution and connect more people to the planet. Seeing how far Take 3 has come in 16 years fills me with enormous pride.

It also reinforces a simple truth: Take 3 has always been about people. It takes a village to create lasting change, and I want to sincerely thank every supporter, partner, donor, volunteer, educator and team member who has walked with us throughout the past 16 years. Your belief in what we do, and your willingness to take action, continues to shape our organisation and enable us to make our greatest impact.

I was elected Chair of Take 3 in October, and we also welcomed three new Directors to the Board: former CEO Sarah Beard, former Communications Manager Madeleine Evans, and long-serving volunteer (and former Treasurer and Office Manager) Giselle Coates. I am excited to work with the new Board, the founders and the Take 3 team to make a big impact in 2026 and beyond.

I’m deeply grateful to all past Board members for their enormous voluntary contributions to this wonderful organisation. I’d like to share a special thanks to Gill McLaren, our outgoing Chair for her tremendous support over the years. Thanks also to Sandrina Postorino, Amanda Visser, Heather Little, Jack Whelan and Paul Davies for their wonderful contributions to Take 3.

I also want to acknowledge and thank outgoing CEO Jenny-Lee Sharnboeck, who after more than six years with Take 3 has moved into a new role in local government. Jenny-Lee’s leadership, commitment and heart helped shape Take 3 into the organisation it is today, and she will be greatly missed. I extend my thanks as well to the staff and contractors who have supported Take 3 during 2025, your contributions have shaped who we are. 

Stepping back into a leadership role has given me the opportunity to reflect deeply on where Take 3 has been and where we can go next. I’m here to respect the deep foundations we’ve laid, to understand where our greatest impact can be made and to ensure we reach our shared objective: to make plastic pollution a thing of the past.

Looking ahead to 2026, I’m incredibly excited about what’s to come. Our ambitions are clear, our energy is bursting, and we have some powerful initiatives on the horizon.  We will keep you updated via our social media and emails as the next wave of Take 3 takes shape.
