Take 3 Heads to Canberra to Help Turn Off The Plastic Tap
Last month, our CEO Tim Silverwood travelled to Parliament House in Canberra to celebrate the launch of Plastic Free July and to stand alongside a powerful coalition of leaders calling for stronger action on plastic pollution.
Together with Dr Sophie Scamps MP, Kate Chaney MP, Rebecca Prince-Ruiz OAM (founder of Plastic Free July), Kal Glanznig, the Boomerang Alliance and many other passionate advocates, we supported the release of a new plastics policy paper that outlines practical reforms to tackle Australia’s growing plastic waste crisis.
For more than 17 years, Take 3 for the Sea has inspired millions of people to take simple actions to reduce plastic pollution. Individual actions matter, but they must be matched by smart policies that prevent waste from leaking into the environment, landfills and our bodies.
The push to introduce strong and sensible Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) reforms is growing. These reforms will require that companies producing and selling packaging take greater responsibility for its design, recovery, reuse and recycling. Systems like this shift the burden from councils & society funding the clean up of the problem, to a “polluter pays” principle that works. Over 60 countries around the world have packaging EPR schemes in place.
Take 3 stands with our Ambassador Kal Glanznig and our allies in applying pressure to ensure EPR packaging policy is introduced before the end of 2026.
