Free Youth Leadership program to begin
Take 3 for the Sea is delighted to once again be partnering with SC Johnson to deliver a youth leadership program that develops young people into passionate, educated and self-determined young leaders who have the tools and knowledge they need to spark environmental change.
The Youth Leadership program, which you can sign up for here, is an extension of the online learning program that was developed in partnership with SC Johnson in 2020 and will integrate project-based learning materials with opportunities for personal development while preparing students for leadership.
Open to secondary school pupils in Australia and New Zealand, aged 12-16, the students will attend eight inspirational online workshops with Take 3 education staff and mentors. The program will commence on Tuesday April 27 and students are encouraged to register their interest ASAP.
The program is based on The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and 21st Century skills of problem solving, creativity, critical thinking, decision making and collaboration.
Take 3 for the Sea CEO, Sarah Beard, said: “We are thrilled to be offering a Youth Leadership program aimed at tomorrow’s leaders. We aim to build programs that inspire youth to prepare themselves for leadership through curriculum-aligned, project-based learning activities, webinars and personal development activities.
“The core idea behind the program is encouraging young people to be involved and engaged in awareness of the issue of plastic pollution and through the course of the program they are encouraged to invent, innovate, and campaign for change.
“At Take 3 we are determined to be part of the solution and SC Johnson’s generous support will allow us to utilise the expertise of teaching professionals and Take 3 educators to expand on the online learning program materials launched last year.”
The program has been designed to address SC Johnson’s three impact pillars; sustainability, education and social responsibility, with SC Johnson further supporting community by funding an immersive student leadership opportunity for NSW rural and regional students.
SC Johnson will provide financial assistance for sponsored students to secure guaranteed entry to Take 3’s 2021 Youth Summit in June. Sponsorship will cover the cost of travel and accommodation for each student and a parent, teacher or legal guardian.
Kurt Hegvold, General Manager of SC Johnson Australia New Zealand, said: “Inspiring our youth to play an active role in environmental stewardship and to consider their connection to nature is so important.
“At SC Johnson, a family company, we want everyone to think about the risks to our environment and take action and be part of the solution. We are excited by the potential of this Youth Leadership Program in inspiring long-term behaviour change.”
To celebrate the partnership, Take 3 will also host a beach clean-up for SC Johnson staff, family and friends. The beach and date are to be confirmed but will give all those associated with SC Johnson the chance to celebrate the impactful collaboration by directly taking action to protect our oceans.
Due to significant interest from primary schools, a YLP package will also be created for class teachers to deliver to select students in Stage 3 (Years 5 & 6) in Term 3.
