Education programs

Education has been at the heart of Take 3 from the start. Developed and delivered by expert Take 3 Educators, our curriculum-aligned programs for school children from Early Years to Year 12 inspire action and participation.

Early childhood program

Teaches our youngest citizens about ocean health and sustainability. Through arts and crafts, storytelling, music and dance, Take 3 Educators inject enthusiasm and excitement into learning about ocean conservation.

SCHOOL EDUCATION program

Incursions and excursions for primary and secondary school students led by expert Take 3 Educators.  Students embark on a journey of discovery about ocean conservation and their own power to bring about change.

ONLINE LEARNING program

Synchronous and asynchronous classes and online materials developed by Take 3 Educators address the solutions to plastic pollution and spread the Take 3 message far and wide.

EARLY CHILDHOOD

You, Me, Plastic & the Sea

A one-hour, hands-on session facilitated by Take 3 educators introducing the issue of plastic pollution, recycling and ocean health.

DESCRIPTION

The Early Childhood Program follows the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) to teach children about plastic pollution, proper recycling habits and the individual steps they can take to help protect the ocean and the marine life within it. During the sessions children participate in fun and engaging learning experiences through art, song, dance, storytelling and play. Children emerge from the sessions feeling empowered and ready to take the next steps to tackle the problem of plastic pollution in the places they care about most.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The 17 interlinked goals were designed by the United Nations to be a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.”  Our schools program aligns with these SDGs:

PRIMARY SCHOOL

SEA RANGERS: Defending our Oceans from Plastic

A half-day workshop facilitated by Take 3 educators exploring the issue of plastic pollution through the lens of ocean conservation.

DESCRIPTION

Students are taken through an immersive and hands-on workshop that introduces the issue of plastic pollution and its impacts on the ocean and marine life. They then conduct their own waste audit, analysing the litter they collect from the school grounds. For the final activity, students create an action plan for reducing plastic waste at school and at home.

The workshop is based on a three-step process: Think, Feel, Act. Students learn basic facts about the causes and impacts of plastic pollution. This inspires them to feel empathy which motivates them to create action plans outlining ways the use of plastic can be reduced at school and at home.

All Take 3 education programs integrate Indigenous cultural perspectives, The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 21st Century Skills of problem solving, creativity, critical thinking, decision-making and collaboration.

AUDIENCE

Primary school students: whole class or year level; Green Team and Sustainability Squad initiatives

ONLINE LEARNING

Take 3’s Online Learning Program, offered in partnership with Cool Australia, provides teachers with a range of FREE online resources that address solutions to the global plastic pollution crisis. Designed for delivery by teachers, the program sees students explore and strengthen their personal connections to the ocean. The program builds on the success of Take 3’s face-to-face education programs, which encourage behaviour changes and record a 92% reduction in waste in school playgrounds.

DESCRIPTION

Six short films visually demonstrate the program’s content and inspire a deeper understanding of the materials. The films explore key themes in Take 3’s education curricula; connection, the ocean’s natural systems, human impacts on the oceans, and solutions at individual, local and global levels.

Twelve lesson plans, developed in collaboration with Cool Australia’s team of learning experts and aligned with the Australian school curriculum, support the three cross-curriculum priorities as determined by the governing body, Australian Curriculum. These cross-curriculum priorities are:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures
  • Asia and Australia’s engagement with Asia
  • Sustainability
